Delta Air Lines defines a force majeure event as:

Any conditions beyond Delta Air Lines’ control, including weather, acts of God, civil commotion, wars, hostilities, strikes, labor-related disputes, government regulation, shortage of labor or fuel, or other facts not foreseen by Delta Air Lines.

If your flight is delayed, cancelled, or you miss a connection to a Delta Air Lines flight due to a Force Majeure Event (and this includes weather), Delta Air Lines’ only obligation is to refund your ticket. Delta Unaccompanied Minor Program: Guidelines

If they travel with Delta Airlines, children aged five to fourteen must pay an additional fee to have an adult accompany them through the airport. An adult must always accompany the child if they are younger than four years old (passenger aged 18 or older).

How much are the unaccompanied minor costs on Delta Airlines?

Delta charges a $150 (plus VAT) unaccompanied minor service fee for each direction of travel. The price will be in US dollars when leaving Canada or Europe, but it will be in Canadian or Euros when entering the US.

This cost will be charged for flights with either a non-stop or connected segment for domestic and international travel. Also, remember that this fee’s cost is extra to the cost of the ticket (the cost of the ticket).

Does Delta Airlines Allow Children And Minors to Fly Unaccompanied?

Given that Delta Air Lines is one of the biggest airlines in the nation and flies to destinations all over the United States, it is very likely that you are thinking about using it for the trip that your children will take. Children between the ages of 5 and 17 are given a chance to fly solo (as an unattended minor) through Delta’s Unaccompanied Minor Program without a parent, guardian, or adult travel companion.

Sometimes a layover and a connecting flight are required when traveling from one small city to another small city or from one coast to the other.

CHILDREN BETWEEN 8 AND 14 YEARS OF AGE

The above restrictions do not apply to juveniles who are now considered adults, ages 8 through 14. This group of passengers is allowed to board flights and travel on itineraries involving stops, but the stops must be made on flights operated by one Delta, Air France, or KLM. No connections are possible with any of the other SkyTeam flights.

TEENAGERS WHO FALL BETWEEN THE AGES OF 15 AND 17

Unaccompanied Teenagers in this age group have two options when booking flights with Delta:

With a non-refundable ticket, you can change your flight when you pay a change fee of $0-$400, depending on your travel route, plus the price difference. As a reminder, Basic Economy tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable in most cases, but may be canceled for a partial eCredit.

Delta Change fees are $200 (for domestic flights) and $250 (for international flights). There is a maximum of two changes allowed per ticket.

Delta Airlines is pleased to offer Travelers the 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation period. By purchasing a qualifying eTicket that originates in the United States, you have one day from the time of purchase to cancel or change your eTicket for any reason and receive a full refund — including any prepaid fees and Direct Ticketing Charges — with no cancellation fee.

Delta Airlines passengers who cancel or change a ticket may be subject to a cancellation fee. The fee is $150 for tickets issued for travel originating in Korea, and €150 for tickets issued for travel originating in Europe. The fee is £150 for tickets issued for travel originating in the United Kingdom, and $180 for tickets issued for travel originating in Africa, Middle East and India.

The following tickets cannot be canceled or changed: those issued for travel originating in Mexico (which must be used on the date specified); those issued as part of a group fare; those purchased with an employee discount; those purchased at a non-refundable rate; those purchased with frequent flyer miles; and those that have been reissued due to incorrect information entered by the purchaser at time of purchase (e.g., name or address).

Delta Airlines baggage fees

Delta Airlines baggage fees are complicated and can be difficult to understand. The website for Delta Airlines has a page dedicated to baggage fees, but it’s not always clear which fee is applicable and when. If you have questions about your specific situation, we encourage you to call customer service before booking your flight.

Delta Airlines’ basic checked bag fee is $30 per bag. However, this fee can be reduced or eliminated with certain ticket purchases. For example, the fee can be waived if you purchase an Economy Comfort ticket or if you buy a One-Way fare.

Delta Airlines also charges a fee for oversized or overweight bags. This fee is calculated based on the dimensions of your bag and ranges from $75-$150 per piece, depending on how much oversize/overweight your bag is by inches/pounds. When calculating this fee, Delta takes into account the length+width+height of your bag in inches (excluding wheels). The weight limit for each piece of checked luggage is 50 pounds; however, this limit can be increased by buying additional weight allowance at check-in or online before departure (for an extra cost).

For travelers in the Main Cabin seat on a flight within the United States, without a Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card, Medallion Status, or Active Military exceptions:

• $30 For your first standard checked bag under 50 lbs. (23 kg), each way
• $40 For your second standard checked bag under 50 lbs. (23 kg), each way

If you are a Delta SkyMiles Medallion Member or a Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card Member, your first standard checked bag flies free. Please note that the checked baggage allowance and price each way vary by route and fare class.

Delta Airlines Standby Fees

Delta Airlines standby fees are charged to passengers who have not booked a ticket before and want to fly standby. The fee is $75 per segment, or part of a flight. Each segment is considered to be one part of a journey, such as a trip from Los Angeles to New York City.

The fee must be paid by the passenger when they check in to their flight and apply for standby status.

If you’re not able to board a flight after checking in as standby, you may be required to pay an additional fee of $75 per segment on top of your original standby fee if it’s necessary for another passenger to take your seat on the plane.

The fee can’t be waived even if you’ve paid for an upgrade or extra legroom seat on the flight because these are considered separate purchases.

Delta Airlines pet fee

Delta Airlines charges a $150 fee for pets in the plane’s cabin. If you’re flying with more than one pet, you’ll have to pay the fee for each one. The fee also applies if you want to check your pet and bring it back into the cabin at any point during your flight. Each carrier has different restrictions and regulations, but all of them require that your pet be 8 weeks old or older and weigh less than 10 pounds.

If you are traveling within the United States, Alaska, or Canada, there are no additional fees for Delta’s PetSafe Program. However, if you’re traveling between states outside of those listed above or internationally, an additional fee will be associated with transporting your pet.

Delta Airlines priority boarding fee

Cardholders receive Main Cabin 1 priority boarding on Delta flights, which means they can get on the plane before other economy class passengers. Having priority boarding means you’ll have more time to find space in the overhead bins for your carry-on and a bit of breathing room to get settled into your seat.

The priority boarding fee can be paid online before your flight, at the airport, or onboard your flight. If you pay it online, you will receive an electronic receipt that can be used as a boarding pass. You can also purchase the priority boarding fee when you check in online or at the airport.

Delta Seat Selection Fee

Seating on Delta flights is based on a combination of factors, including your booking class, frequent flyer status, and the overall availability of seats in the cabin. When you make your reservation, you’ll be able to view your seat selection options as well as any applicable fees.

If you’re a SkyMiles member or have purchased an eligible fare, you’ll have a choice of three seating categories: Main Cabin Extra (economy), Main Cabin (economy), and First Class. Delta also offers two ways to pick a seat even when flying basic economy. Policies for Change or cancel your Delta flight, If you’re planning to fly Delta, here’s what you need to know about changing and canceling your flight, as well as their Delta 24-hour cancellation policy.

Delta doesn’t have a blanket policy on changing or canceling your flight—it can vary based on the type of ticket you’ve purchased:

As per Delta Cancellation Policy, If you bought a refundable ticket, Delta allows certain changes and cancellations without penalty up to 24 hours after you purchase your ticket, as long as your flight is at least seven days away. The change fee would then be waived for any subsequent changes or cancellations.

If the ticket is non-refundable but you’ve bought travel insurance or the Ticket Protection Plan through Delta, some changes are allowed for a fee (usually $200) and may also require you to pay any difference in fare between your old and new flights.

If none of the above applies, you’re usually out of luck since no changes are allowed with a nonrefundable ticket. You can apply for an exception, however, if there has been a death in the family or if you or someone traveling with you has been seriously injured; this will require proof of death or injury and an explanation of how it affects your ability to travel according to the original plans.

Delta will let you change or cancel your flight for free, with a few exceptions. Here are the details:

• You’re allowed to make changes or cancellations for any reason (in other words, there’s no specific list of circumstances that qualify you for a fee waiver)
• The only time you’ll have to pay a fee is if you purchased a cheap Basic Economy ticket.  In that case, you’d have to pay Delta’s “Flight Change Fee” which is up to $200 per ticket plus any difference in fare amount (if there is one).
• Your free cancellation/change can be done online, over the phone, at an airport kiosk, or at the Delta ticket counter.  You can also use their mobile app.

Delta flight change and cancellation Fees

You can cancel or make changes to your flight without penalty if you do so within 24 hours of booking. After 24 hours, you’ll be charged a fee of $200. If the ticket is non-refundable, the $200 fee will be deducted from the overall amount refunded.

Any changes made after 24 hours will incur additional fees. To give an example, if you are flying one way in a seat with the basic economy fare on domestic flights, it will cost $200 to change your flight after 24 hours. For flights with regular economy seating, it will cost $200 to make any changes within 60 days or less than 7 days of departure, or $500 for all other times.

If you’re flying internationally and have basic economy seating, there are no refunds for cancelling your flight after 24 hours of booking. For international flights with regular economy seating, fees range from $500 to $750 for cancelling up to 7 days prior to departure and up to 2 hours prior to departure respectively.

Any ticket during the 24-hour risk-free cancellation period

Delta change fees: No change fee. Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed. Cancel and book a new flight instead.

Delta cancellation fees: No cancellation fee — includes Basic Economy. Receive a full refund to your original payment method.

Delta’s 24-hour risk-free cancellation

If you booked your reservation online, you can also make changes to your ticket by logging into your Delta account.

Changes and cancellations are permitted within 24 hours of making a reservation, as long as the flight is at least three days away. If you make changes or cancel within 24 hours of booking, you will receive a refund for the full amount of the ticket.

Your refund will be applied to the original form of payment used to purchase the ticket. Please note that if you purchased Basic Economy fares, we are unable to change or cancel these reservations through our Customer Care team.

If you wish to change your travel itinerary after the 24-hour period has passed, standard change and cancellation fees may apply.

Standard change and cancellation fees will vary based on a number of factors including (but not limited to) fare type purchased, when changes are made in relation to departure date, and route is flown. Please visit the delta fees page for a full list of fees associated with changes and cancellations on Delta Air Lines flights.

Delta Airlines Refundable ticket change and cancellation policy

If you purchased a refundable ticket, you may make changes or cancel your trip up to one day before departure. You will not pay a change fee (up to $200 per round-trip ticket) but may have to pay a fare difference if the reassigned ticket is more expensive than your original ticket.

If the reassigned ticket is cheaper than your original, you will be refunded the difference in price.

If you’re unable to make your trip, you can request a refund of your unused tickets up to one day before departure. You will receive a full refund less any applicable fees.

If you’re planning on cancelling your trip with less than one day until departure time, the refund policy depends on whether the flight was booked directly through Delta Airlines—in which case it would be subject to our standard refund policy—or if it was booked through a third-party service provider—in which case, cancellation fees vary by provider and are typically nonrefundable.

Delta Basic Economy change and cancellation policy

Basic Economy fares offer a lower price but do not allow changes or refunds.

If you are ticketed on a Basic Economy fare, you may cancel your itinerary within 24 hours of booking without penalty. After 24 hours, all Basic Economy tickets are non-refundable and no changes can be made to your itinerary. For international itineraries including travel to/from Canada, the cancellation period is 4 days for Basic Economy tickets.

Within 24 hours of booking (or 4 days for international itineraries including travel to/from Canada), if you don’t cancel your itinerary, no fare difference will be collected if you change your itinerary before departure. After this period, you will be responsible for any difference in fare between the original fare paid and the current fare plus any applicable fees collected by Delta and/or third party vendors.

Exception: If the original ticket was purchased at delta.com or the Fly Delta app, then an exception to this policy will be granted for cancellations and changes to your itinerary within 12 hours of ticketing as long as all travel is at least 7 days away from the date of purchase.

• The change fee for Delta Basic Economy is $200 per ticket.
• The cancellation fee for Delta Basic Economy is $200 per ticket, with a minimum of $200.
• Delta Basic Economy passengers may cancel their tickets at no charge up to 24 hours before departure and receive a full refund if the ticket was purchased at least seven days in advance.

Delta non-refundable ticket change and cancellation policy

Non-refundable tickets are the cheapest tickets available at the time of purchase. They make sense for those who are sure they will travel on the dates and times they have purchased.

If you purchase a non-refundable ticket, you can still change or cancel it as long as you do so within 24 hours of booking. If this is the case, you’ll be refunded in full to your original form of payment. Otherwise, non-refundable tickets cannot be refunded or cancelled after that point.

You may still choose to change your flight with the standard change fee, if any, plus the difference in fare if necessary. You can do this from your account page on Delta’s website.

Delta award ticket change and cancellation policy

Change your award ticket

If you need to change your Delta award travel, you can make one change without paying a fee if you do it at least 72 hours before your flight. If you’re changing your trip within 72 hours of departure, or after your flight has departed, you’ll have to pay $150 (or 10,000 SkyMiles) per person per direction.

Cancel your award ticket

If you cancel an award ticket online at least 72 hours before departure, you’ll be refunded the full value of your ticket. If the reservation was made more than 72 hours before departure and you want to cancel it in person or over the phone with a customer representative, there will be no fee for cancellation.

If you’re canceling an award ticket less than 72 hours before departure, there will be a $150 (or 10,000 SkyMiles) cancellation fee per person per direction.

Delta award ticket change and cancellation policy is as follows:

1. If you want to cancel a non-refundable ticket, you will be charged a $150 fee. However, if you want to cancel an economy-class ticket, which normally costs 20,000 miles, the fee is only $50.
2. If you change or cancel your award ticket within 72 hours of booking it and if your flight is at least 7 days away, then the cancellation fee will be waived.
3. If you have a Delta SkyMiles credit card, then there is no same-day change fee on any type of ticket.
4. When changing an award ticket, any difference in mileage between the original ticket and the new one will be collected in miles.

Delta Reservations change fee: For flights originating outside of North America, Delta is currently waiving change fees under its COVID-19 travel waiver for all cabins except basic economy. While it’s not clear what reservation changes will cost when that policy ends, the fees for international flights previously ranged between $200-$500, and changes within 24 hours were $75.

It’s pretty clear that, for Delta’s domestic flights, your options are limited. However, their international tariffs (Contract of Carriage: International) are at least a little more encouraging. Open it up, then look for the separate rules cited in the following partial extract:

Rule 80: Delta Airlines Flight Delays/Cancellations

A. Flight Schedules are Not Guaranteed: Delta will exercise reasonable efforts to carry passengers and their baggage according to Delta’s published schedules and the schedule reflected on the passenger’s ticket, but published schedules, flight times, aircraft type, seat assignments, and similar details reflected in the ticket or Delta’s published schedules are not guaranteed and form no part of this contract.

Delta may substitute alternate carriers or aircraft, delay or cancel flights, change seat assignments, and alter or omit stopping places shown on the ticket at any time. Schedules are subject to change without notice.

Except as stated in this rule and as provided in Rule 55, Delta will have no liability for making connections, failing to operate any flight according to schedule, changing the schedule for any flight, changing seat assignments or aircraft types, or revising the routings by which Delta carries the passenger from the ticketed origin to destination.

B. Delta’s Liability in the Event of Schedule Changes, Delays and Flight Cancellations: In the event of flight cancellation, diversion, delays of greater than 90 minutes, or delays that will cause a passenger to miss connections, Delta will (at passenger’s request) cancel the remaining ticket and refund the unused portion of the ticket and unused ancillary fees in the original form of payment in accordance with Rule 90(b) of these conditions of carriage.

If the passenger does not request a refund and cancellation of the ticket, Delta will transport the passenger to the destination on Delta’s next flight on which seats are available in the class of service originally purchased.

At Delta’s sole discretion and if acceptable to the passenger, Delta may arrange for the passenger to travel on another carrier or via ground transportation. If acceptable to the passenger, Delta will provide transportation in a lower class of service, in which case the passenger may be entitled to a partial refund.

If space on the next available flight is available only in a higher class of service than purchased, Delta will transport the passenger on the flight, although Delta reserves the right to upgrade other passengers on the flight according to its upgrade priority policy to make space in the class of service originally purchased.

Delta Airlines Standby Policy

As per Delta Airlines Official Website, you can only go standby on an earlier flight than your original ticket if the Same-Day Confirmed option is not available. The same-day standby fee is $75 but is complimentary for Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion Members. However, the fee is only charged if you’re cleared to go on your requested flight. Also, you can only do this for flights within the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, and some tickets, such as Basic Economy, are ineligible for this.

Delta flight change Standby rules for same-day travel:

• Same-day standby is only offered if same-day confirmation isn’t provided.
• Silver Medallion associates, overall SkyMiles members, and non-members might fly same-day standby for a trip that is sooner than their first flight.
• Diamond, Gold, and Platinum Medallion members might standby for a trip any time on precisely the same day as their flight.
• No navigation adjustments are enabled.
• Eligible same-day standby flights have to be on precisely the same day as the first flight, beginning at midnight of the same day to 11:59 pm the same day.

• Cancel within Delta’s 24-hour risk-free cancellation period. In fact, all airlines are subject to this rule as administered by the Department of Transportation. You can cancel your ticket within 24 hours.
• Purchase a refundable fare. When searching for fares on Delta’s website, simply click “Refundable” to see a list of fares that are refundable for any reason. While these fares will cost you much more than nonrefundable tickets, they won’t incur any change or cancellation fees — which can sometimes cost more than the airfare itself.
• Hold Delta elite status. Gold Medallion members and higher enjoy waived same-day change fees. Diamond and Platinum Medallion members enjoy waived change fees for award travel, which typically cost $150.
• Watch out for schedule changes. As airline demand has changed dramatically over the past year, your flight may be rescheduled or even canceled. In the event of either happening, you may be eligible for a complimentary flight change or cancellation. For tickets issued after Aug. 17, 2020, a delay of 120 minutes or more, a change in the routing of the original flight, equipment, or a misconnect, or an outright cancellation qualifies for waived fees. You’ll receive an email with options to change or cancel your flight.

I am adding another incident to this answer. Once, I was not able to take the flight due to a change of plans. The customer care agent on the phone told me cancellation would not be free. That day, all their flights were full and people were placed on waiting. They were selling tickets for my flight at 3 times the regular fare. So, I went online and requested a cancellation and refund. In the reason field, I mentioned I do not plan to take this flight. Please cancel my reservation and accept my refund request as I do not want your seat to go vacant while the flights are full. Surprisingly, in a week, I got my full money back! I did not see this coming. Delta customer care rocks!
